The Savannah Historic District, a National Historic Landmark, is significant for its distinctive grid plan as well as its 18th and 19th century architecture. The district encompasses the original town plan laid out in 1733 by Gen. James E. Oglethorpe, founder of the British colony of Georgia. Today Savannah retains much of this plan based on divisions also called wards, squares, and "trustee lots." Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in America because of the Historic District. It is the largest historic district in the country. Click here for more information |

The Big Chicken is a 56-foot tall sign at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Marietta, Georgia. It is made of sheet metal, painted bright red with a moving yellow beak. A sign like this would not normally become a significant roadside attraction, but The Big Chicken has become a popular and widely-known landmark. Click here for more information |

Savannah Georgia is home to the World's Largest Globe. The globe was originally used as a storage tank for the local gas company. In 1956, R.E. Turner, Jr. (Cable mogul Ted Turner's father) talked the company into painting it like a globe. It is now painted as the earth is seen from space. The globe can be seen briefly in the Sandra Bullock/Ben Affleck movie "Forces of Nature." Click here for more information |

Hidalgo is home of the world's largest killer bee. The statue was created because Hidalgo was the city where the Africanized "Killer Bees" were first discovered in the US. The statue is 10 feet high and 20 feet long, and as statues go, this is a nice one. Click here for more information |

The World's Largest King Neptune Statue is in Panama City, Florida. It's 50 to 60-feet tall, and when we saw it on April 11, 2003, it was for sale! If I just had a place to put it.... We would have never even known about King Neptune, but after spending time on our RoundAmerica.com web site, Melissa Keeney, a reporter with NBC Channel 7 in Panama City, realized that we were into statues, so she took us to the statue and filmed us there as part of a news story for NBC. We saw a number of interesting sights in Key West - cats with an extra toe, frozen Key Lime Pie-on-a-Stick, Stan the Pink Flamingo Man, a jalapeno pepper-shaped car, and a big seashell at a Texaco station. The car was cool, and we decided the shell surely must be the world's largest sea shell at a Texaco station. Click here for more information |
