Clary's Cafe - Savannah Georgia
Clary's is a family owned and operated business serving Savannah since 1903. Best known for its great food and as the "Diner" in the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," Clary's has remained true to character for over 100 years. Clary's is a good old-fashioned local diner-like cafe. Along with four homemade soups daily, Clary's also serves Savannah's best pastries, pies, and their signature dessert: jumbo eclairs filled with real baked custard!
Clary's has heavenly desserts, such as jumbo (feeds 2 or more) chocolate eclairs filled with baked cream custard, Clary's original creation; and apple or peach blossom with warm apples or peaches, raisins and cinnamon topped caramel sauce, served in a flaky cinnamon shell. Clary's has an ice cream soda fountain with lots of ice cream selections from Banana Splits, ice cream sodas, phosphates, egg cremes and malts -- all made the old fashion way. Clary's Cafe was author John Berendt's hangout while in town as a guest of antique dealer Jim Williams, whom he was writing a magazine article about for Esquire. This is where Berendt met eccentric inventor Luthar Driggers, creator of the flea collar, the "No Pest" strip, and the stickey fly tape. Location: Clary's Cafe is located at 404 Abercorn Street (Abercorn & Jones) in the Historic District in Savannah, Georgia. The Historic District location was used in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Clary's has a less famous location at 4330 Habersham Street (Habersham & 61st Street) in Savannah. Clary's on Abercorn is open only for breakfast and lunch. www.claryscafesavannah.com
