Savannah Georgia is home to the World's Largest Globe. The globe was originally used as a storage tank for the local gas company.

In 1956, R.E. Turner, Jr. (Cable mogul Ted Turner's father) talked the company into painting it like a globe. It is now painted as the earth is seen from space.

The globe can be seen briefly in the Sandra Bullock/Ben Affleck movie "Forces of Nature."

The Globe was purchased by a mortgage company. While the landmark still has the image of the earth on it, it has been somewhat defaced with the name of a mortgage company across it.

Location:

The World's Largest Globe is on the southwest side of town, east of Hunter Army Field, 1 block south of Derenne at the corner of White Bluff Road and 73rd Street.
